Trauma

Emotional or Psychological Trauma by definition is a stressful event in which a person experiences a life threatening act that can be physical in nature or an emotional and psychological threat. It is important to know that the event itself is not what causes emotional or psychological trauma, but how the event leaves the person feeling or the experience of the event.

How do I know if I have experienced a TRAUMA?

Has something occurred in your life that has left you feeling crippled and helpless? Is everything you know not so normal anymore? Were you in a bad accident, were you a victim of a crime or abuse, maybe someone you loved suddenly died or was removed from your life, or maybe you were betrayed and hurt by someone you trusted and was supposed to keep you safe? Maybe this event happened 6 months ago, maybe it happened when you were a child?

I think I did experience a trauma?

Now sometimes a person can experience a trauma and for a variety of reasons have a resiliency that allows them to “bounce back.” However, more often than not; people need professional help to figure how to cope and gain control of their lives again. Has your traumatic experience left you feeling fearful, unable to trust anyone or anything, especially yourself? Do you find yourself unable to get thoughts or images out of your mind that remind you of the trauma, not matter how hard you try? Is it difficult to fall asleep or concentrate because your mind is going a million miles a minute? Do you feel so angry about what happened, that it is impossible to be happy? Do friends and family ask you “how are you doing?” and you respond with a “I am fine” but inside you just want to SCREAM and yell “HOW DO YOU THINK I AM DOING?”

You don’t have to live with this or deal with this alone.

One of the many questions I ask clients that I work with who have experienced some type of trauma is, “are you going to be a victim or a survivor?” I can help you learn to be a survivor. You may have had no control over what happened to you, but I can help you learn to take control of how you are going to respond to what happened to you. I can help you learn why you are experiencing so many emotions, what is triggering those emotions, validate and normalize those emotions and teach you how to no longer allow those emotions control your life. If you are ready to deal with this traumatic experience that happened to you and regain charge and purpose in your life, give me a call and let’s begin this work together.
